Orange Chicken

Orange Chicken is a delicious Chinese dish that is known for its sweet and tangy sauce. This recipe is very easy and packed with tremendous flavors, so skip the takeout and prepare this easy Orange Chicken recipe that the entire family will enjoy.

 4 skinless chicken breast or boneless thighs
 1 cup canola oil
 1 tbsp five spice seasoning
 2 tsp black pepper
 1 tsp of salt
 2 tbsp soy sauce
 1 egg
 1 cup flour
 ¼ cup cornstarch
Orange Sauce
 1 cup fresh orange juice
 ½ cup granulated sugar
 ¼ cup soy sauce
 3 cloves garlic, minced
 1 tsp ginger, minced (ginger paste can be substituted)
 1 tsp red pepper flakes
 2 tbsp rice vinegar
 1 tsp orange zest

Remove skin and excess fat from chicken and cut into 1 inch pieces

Add chicken to large bowl along with all the ingredients to season chicken except egg

Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes (longer the better)

Add ingredients for orange sauce to another bowl and mix well to combine. Set aside for later use.

To a large bowl, add flour, cornstarch, pinch of salt and 1 tsp of black pepper. Mix well to combine

Add egg to bowl with seasoned chicken and mix

Transfer chicken individually to flour mixture and dredge. Shake to remove excess flour and set all chicken pieces aside on a rack

Pour cooking oil into large skillet on high heat and allow oil to get hot

Carefully place chicken into pan and cook for 5 mins or until golden brown. If you are shallow frying then fry 5 minutes per side.

Pour orange sauce into another large skillet over low flame and simmer for 3 minutes

Transfer chicken to sauce and mix to coat in sauce. Cook in sauce on low flame for 3 minutes

Remove from heat and serve hot over white rice

Garnish with green onions
